Southeastern Conference allows some athletics activities beginning June 8

How Missouri is planning for the June 8 return of football players to campus

The conference's presidents voted Friday to allow teams to return to campus starting June 8.

SEC officials noted any workouts would take place "under strict supervision of designated university personnel and safety guidelines developed by each institution".

The SEC's announcement Friday - which came two days after the NCAA announced it would allow athletes in football and men's and women's basketball to return to campus June 1, and one day after Alabama Governor Kay Ivey announced sports practices in the state can resume effective 5 p.m. Friday with the resumption of competition permitted June 15 - falls between those first two dates Malzahn and his staff were planning for.

"At this time, we are preparing to begin the fall sports season as now scheduled, and this limited resumption of voluntary athletic activities on June 8 is an important initial step in that process", Sankey said.

A transition period that allows student-athletes to gradually adapt to full training and sport activity following a period of inactivity.

In June, NCAA rules allow only strength and conditioning coaches to monitor voluntary on-campus activities, which will continue to be the case. We will conduct screening leading up to the resumption of activities on June 8.

He will forever be a part of the Utah Jazz organization and we join his family, friends and fans in mourning his loss. He only made the NBA Finals twice - both with the Jazz with John Stockton and Karl Malone running plays on the court.

After the coronavirus pandemic forced the shutdown of sports across the country, the council banned all on-campus athletic activities. It stressed the need for controlled, safe environments and continued social distancing.

Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin said UF will bring back athletes in three sports to start.

Those practices include educating team members on best practices for preventing the spread of COVID-19, a multi-stage screening before student-athletes arrive on campus and before activities begin, testing and isolation of team members with symptoms of COVID-19.

SEC officials said the task force's recommendations could provide a guide to league members, Sankey noted that each school would get to make its own decisions regarding plans for how to make sure student-athletes return safely. "Our staff and student-athletes should be prepared for a 'new normal, ' as we'll be implementing changes to how everyone accesses and uses our facilities".

"Football, volleyball and soccer teams will return in phases within those teams in the month of June", he said in a release.

This is a significant step toward the college football season starting on time for those schools and teams being able to play complete seasons.
