National Basketball Association world, including former players, react to the passing of Jerry Sloan

Deron Williams and Jerry Sloan

The Jazz announced that Sloan died from complications from Parkinson's disease and Lewy body dementia, which he had revealed diagnoses for in April 2016.

Before he joined the Bulls' coaching staff, he played for the team from 1966 to 1976.

Sloan led the Bulls to the playoffs in their first season, and won the first of two All Star recognitions in 1967.

Known for his defensive intensity as a player, Sloan became a fan favorite as one of the "Original Bulls".

Valorant launch date announced - Riot’s shooter arrives in June
The Closed Beta has been available for NA and European Union since April 7th, and in Korea and Brazil for the last few weeks. The game, which is now available in the U.S. , most of Europe and Latin America, has been in closed beta since early April.

Darrell Griffith, who along with Eaton has his number retired by the Jazz, echoed Sloan's impact on the franchise.

He then served as a Jazz assistant from 1985 to 1989 before taking over as head coach and going on a legendary run. During the 23 years he coached the franchise and the three that he spent as the head coach of the Chicago Bulls, he picked up 1,221 wins, good for third-highest in league history. He only made the NBA Finals twice - both with the Jazz with John Stockton and Karl Malone running plays on the court.

During his tenure, the Jazz progressed to the playoffs on no fewer than 20 occasions. He coached the team from 1988 all the way until 2011 and he helped them get to the NBA Finals in 1997 and 1998. Sloan won 1,221 games in his career, the fourth-highest total in National Basketball Association history. His 98 playoff wins are the sixth most in league history. He took the message to heart - "No one wanted to be a drugstore cowboy", he said at his 2009 Hall of Fame induction - and earning all-state honors before landing at the University of Evansville, where he worked his way onto the National Basketball Association radar as a defensive-minded guard. As one of only four retired numbers in the Bulls organization, Chicago will always remember Sloan's legacy. He will forever be a part of the Utah Jazz organization and we join his family, friends and fans in mourning his loss. We are so thankful for what he accomplished here in Utah and the decades of dedication, loyalty and tenacity he brought to our franchise. He is second on the NBA's all-time list for consecutive games coached with one franchise (1,809). But the rise of Stockton and Malone turned the organization into a perennial victor, with Sloan overseeing three 60-win seasons and the franchise's six trips to the Western Conference finals.
