Ball State offers emergency student funding through CARES Act

Many students veterans may not be eligible to receive federal COVID-19 emergency grants because of Department of Education guidance that restricts these cash grants to students who have filed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, said Veterans Education Success, an advocacy group. But the California community college system is suing the department, saying Congress didn't require the emergency grants to go to students who qualify for other aid, and that the interpretation excludes undocumented and other students. The University continues to process those applications as quickly as possible. The package created distinct pools of money for students and institutions, with separate categories for historically black colleges and universities and schools under tribal control.

Students not eligible for Cares Act Emergency Financial Aid Funding may qualify for CTC Eagle Aid. The deadline to apply for grants at Concord has been extended to May 27.

Louisiana Tech will also be able to offer CARES Act grants of at least $200 each to qualified students who enroll in summer courses; those will be disbursed beginning the week of June 8 after enrollment in the Summer Quarter has been verified.

"Our faculty and staff have worked diligently to ensure our students would be among the first in the state and nation to receive CARES Act assistance", said Dr. Dickie Crawford, Associate Vice President for Student Advancement. Bennett said they'll be rolling out a program for summer grants in a few days.

On May 6, 2020, the total number of students at Hamline who were eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, and thus eligible to receive a CARES Act emergency financial award, was determined to be 2,165, which included 1,647 undergraduate and 518 graduate students. The school is still determining how the money will be used after half is awarded to students, spokeswoman Dana Davis said.

WSU has to spend all of the CARES Act funding within one calendar year, he said. Students living in residence halls and with meal cards received the reimbursements.

Marshall students were reimbursed for 37.5 percent of spring semester charges including meal plans, room and board plans, parking fees, and Rec Center fees.
