Ford Shuts 2 US Assembly Plants Due to COVID-19 Infections

Ford's Chicago plant operating after brief shutdowns Tuesday linked to COVID-19 infections

Now, that last initiative appears to have paid off, as two workers at the Ford Chicago Assembly Plant tested positive for COVID-19 after returning to work this week.

Ford again restarted production at the Chicago plant for Wednesday evening's shift. The latest closure happened after a Lear Corp factory in Hammond, Indiana, which makes seats for Ford's Chicago plant, idled its assembly plant, The Wall Street Journal reports.

The reopening of vehicle plants will be a closely watched test of whether workers across a range of US industries will be able to return to factories in large numbers without a resurgence of infections.

Felker says that all coronavirus exposure impacting the Dearborn and Chicago factories occurred outside the workplace and both sites were expected to resume production later on Wednesday. "You have to have a healthy workforce, a healthy supply chain and healthy demand", he said.

In response to the criticism, Kroger said that, in addition to the temporary raise, it has given bonuses to hourly workers twice since the pandemic started.

The same procedure was followed at Dearborn Truck when the positive result came back on Wednesday, he said. The factory " was thoroughly cleaned and the work sites, equipment, common spaces and the path taken by sick, disinfected employees, " Ford said. Workers who had been in contact with the two infected employees were instructed to self-quarantine for 14 days. Following are developments Wednesday related to national and global response, the work place and the spread of the virus.

The United Auto Workers union, which represents hourly workers at Ford (F), General engines (GM) is Fiat Chrysler (FCAU), released a statement on the situation in Chicago: "continues to aggressively monitor the implementation of health and safety protocols to protect our members, their families and their communities".
