Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has warned troublemakers who violate coronavirus lockdown rules and abuse medical workers that they would be shot dead.

In a televised address, Duterte asked his people to cooperate by following quarantine measures so as to to slow the spread of the pandemic and spare the country's fragile health system from being overwhelmed.

"Is that understood? Dead".

"There is an imperative need to properly consolidate and manage all donations of medicines, medical equipment and supplies, and other health products to address COVID-19", Duterte said.

"I will not hesitate [to tell] my soldiers to shoot you".

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has received widespread criticism for some of the things he has said over the past few years.
