Nursing home residents play life-sized Hungry Hungry Hippos in coronavirus lockdown

These residents of nursing homes are not allowed to visit visitors so they stay busy with life-size games

Bryn Celyn Care Home, in Maesteg, Wales, created a life-size game of "Hungry Hungry Hippos" for residents to play while on lockdown amid the novel coronavirus outbreak.

The nursing home has been on lockdown since March 12, meaning no visits from loved ones. "But we are staying positive and doing what we do every day, which is supporting our residents, and keeping it as normal as possible".

In addition to board games, Williams says residents are filling their days with activities like cooking, quizzes, craft sessions and exercise classes.

"The lifestyles team here at Bryn Celyn are always coming up with fun and exciting ways to keep the residents entertained", a representative for the facility told TODAY.

Posting the video to Facebook, the care home said: "Residents really enjoyed playing a new game today, Hungry Hippos".

New Tracker App Allows Anyone To Self-report Coronavirus Symptoms
It can also be a good sign for doctors and nurses to know early on. "I didn't even think it could be related ", he says . In my practice, patients all around me are reporting this. "Therefore, there are lots of carriers around".

You might remember the classic version of the board game, which basically consists of four toy hippos trying to gobble up as many marbles as possible.

On Thursday, four staff members paired up with four residents and gathered around a pile of colorful plastic playpen balls. In this case, the hippos were the residents, most in wheelchairs, using broomsticks fashioned with plastic baskets for collecting snacks.

The efforts of staff at Bryn Celyn care home have caught the imagination on social media.

"Lots of laughter to lift morale of the team and residents".

But that didn't stop the staff from finding a solution.
