Kuril Islands quake: 7.5 magnitude natural disaster triggers tsunami warning for Russian Federation

An earthquake of magnitude 7.8 struck off Russia's Kuril Islands but meteorological officials in Japan issued no alerts

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said Tuesday afternoon that waves generated by a 7.5 natural disaster east of the Kuril Islands off Asia are "below the threat threshold".

Just last month, a 4.9-magnitude quake slammed Kronotsky Bay on Russia's the Kamchatka Peninsula.

The quake hit at a depth of 59 kilometres (37 miles), USGS added.

According to tsunami.gov, there are no watches or alerts for any US region in response to this quake. T The American Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said that the country's west coast, Alaska and British Columbia of Canada did not face any tsunami threat from the quake.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre had also alerted that hazardous tsunami waves were possible within 1,000km of the quake's epicentre.
