LaLiga: Barcelona sign Martin Braithwaite to solve striker problems

Barcelona have signed former Middlesbrough striker Martin Braithwaite from fellow La Liga side Leganes for 18 million euros ($19.43 million) after receiving permission from the league's organising body to acquire a player outside the transfer window.

Frank Lampard's side failed to sign a major player during the January transfer market despite surviving the two-window transfer ban imposed on them by Federation Internationale de Football Association, but Ziyech arrival will be a massive boost for Chelsea.

Braithwaite's contract will run until the end of June 2024.

The Danish global has inked a four-year deal at Camp Nou, after the Catalan giants were handed special dispensation to sign him outside of the transfer window.

Barca decided not to sign a forward in the January transfer window after Luis Suarez was ruled out for four months following knee surgery but need another striker after French worldwide Ousmane Dembele ruptured his hamstring.

After also selling Youssef En-Nesyri to Sevilla last month, Braithwaite's exit is a cruel blow for struggling Leganes, who will not be able to bring in a replacement unless an exception is made by La Liga.

Julian Nagelsmann insists Spurs clash is not about him and Mourinho
In my team we're also playing without (Dayot) Upamecano, without (Ibrahima) Konate, without (Willi) Orban, so it's the same. Eight years ago, Tim Wiese [former Hoffenheim goalkeeper] called me Baby Mourinho, but that was only for two weeks.

"Barcelona have acted correctly, they told us on Monday of their intentions and the only way to get him was to pay the clause", he added.

"We cannot understand the current regulation that a club, having a long-term injury, can perform this operation unilaterally and transfer their problem to our club".

Leganes director general, Martin Ortega, said: "We will raise our voice".

They could do nothing to prevent Braithwaite leaving and - unbelievably - they are not allowed to sign a replacement, as they have no injury crisis.

The Dutch star caught the attention of Barcelona after an impressive start to life in La Liga, scoring six goals in 24 appearances for Leganes.
