Tesla Gigafactory 4: German Court Halted Site Preparation

The court ruling, by the higher administrative court of the states of Berlin and Brandenburg, comes after the state environmental office gave a green light to clear 92 hectares of forest for the plant. The German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported that Tesla will invest up to €4 billion ($4.3 billion) into the factory.

Protesters say the factory is a threat to local wildlife and water supplies. Then Sunday environmentalists won a court injunction that temporarily put a halt to the forest clearing.

Planning permission has not yet been granted on the site, and a complaint has been brought by a local environmental group, the Gruene Liga Brandenburg (Green League of Brandenburg).

Electric Vehicle (EV) maker Tesla has been ordered to halt its work on felling of trees near Berlin to build its first European auto and battery Gigafactory facility, in what is being hailed as a victory for environmental activists.

Lawmakers from the pro-business Christian Democrat and Free Democrat parties have warned that the legal battle waged against the Gigafactory would inflict serious and long-lasting damage on Germany's image as a place to do business.

Despite 9-minute drought, No. 17 OR tops No. 16 Colorado
Bey returned to form with 21 points and 15 rebounds to lead No. 16 Colorado (20-6, 9-4 Pac-12) ) to a 69-47 rout of Oregon State. The Utes have lost three of its last five overall while having managed to beat Stanford and California over that span.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced the plans for the 300-hectare site in November previous year, and Tesla says on its website it aims to begin production in 2021.

German officials celebrated in November when Palo Alto, California-based Tesla made a decision to build its first European factory in the country. In its statement, the higher court said there is no reason to assume that the Green League's appeal won't succeed.

The Brandenburg government sold the 300 hectare site to Tesla for €41 million, and the largely forested area has been combed by bomb disposal teams for any explosives left over from the Second World War.

We all know what the 6-9 month delay might mean for Tesla, which is racing with time to keep the edge over the automotive industry in Europe, as well how much could be done over such a period (the Gigafactory 3 was built and is producing cars within a year).
