United States announces 15th virus case, this one in Texas evacuee

The first person in Maine is being tested for coronavirus. It doesn't mean they have it.

The Maine CDC in a Monday press release said it was "made aware of the individual through protocols established by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to limit the spread of coronavirus in the United States". Previously, states with suspected cases of the virus would send respiratory secretions, namely nasal or oral swabs, to the agency's headquarters in Atlanta for testing, forcing state officials to await the results before confirming a case.

CDC distributed its test for coronavirus to more than 100 labs across the U.S., and as many worldwide last week.

A NY pharmaceutical company says it could have an experimental treatment for COVID-19 in three to six months. That patient is one of 13 now known to be infected with the new coronavirus in the U.S.

The patient was among a group that had returned on a charter flight from China on February 7.

The patient has been under federal quarantine since arriving in the United States from China on a chartered flight on February 7, the CDC said.

Of the almost 1,000 people who were evacuated from Wuhan, three have tested positive for the virus, including Thursday's case. After showing symptoms, the patient was taken to a hospital and isolated before testing positive.

The CDC on Tuesday released 195 people from quarantine at March Air Reserve Base in California after holding them there for 14 days.

In worldwide developments, Messonnier said the CDC is in contact with Japanese health officials, because there are an unspecified number of sick Americans on the quarantined cruise ship quarantined in Yokohama port. It also said its first patient to recover from Covid-19 was discharged from hospital.

Japan confirmed its first coronavirus death, adding to two previous fatalities in Hong Kong and the Philippines. Under an executive order from President Donald Trump, foreigners who have been to China within two weeks were blocked from entering the United States.

"When some states were doing this, we received feedback that they weren't - that it wasn't working as expected, specifically some public health labs at states were getting inconclusive results and what that means is that test results were not coming back as false positive or false negatives, but they were being read as inconclusive", the CDC's Nancy Messonnier told reporters Wednesday, according to CNN.

The CDC is now sending all states a new supply of the ingredient linked to the flawed kits, regardless if they have reported issues with the kits or not.

The Southern Nevada Health District confirmed this on Wednesday and said it is looking into the possible 'performance issues.
