Jeff Bezos Sued by Girlfriend Lauren Sanchez's Brother Michael for Defamation

Jeff Bezos Sued by Girlfriend Lauren Sanchez's Brother Michael for Defamation

It emerged late Sunday that Sanchez's brother, Michael Sanchez, on Friday sued the Amazon founder for defamation. De Becker declined to comment. The lawsuit blames Bezos and de Becker for spreading what it calls "the false narrative" that Michael Sanchez had betrayed his sister by peddling the story to The Enquirer.

Lauren Sanchez, however, described her brother's lawsuit against Jeff Bezos as "baseless and untrue".

Lauren Sanchez, in a statement obtained through her lawyer, said that her brother committed a "deep and unforgivable betrayal".

Michael says as a result of Bezos's statements, he suffered substantial harm. Michael Sanchez's assertions contain apparent inconsistencies. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages, and does not offer any proof that Sanchez never had access to the photos of Bezos. Trump has often attacked Bezos, who is also the owner of The Washington Post, which the president has said treats him unfairly through its critical coverage of the administration. Bezos also cited the wooing of Crown Prince Mohammed by David J. Pecker, the chief executive of American Media, the publisher of The Enquirer, who was seeking Saudi investment in the company. Citing anonymous sources in the know of an global probe into the matter, The Guardian reported the two (Bezos and Saudi Crown Prince) had exchanged friendly messages on WhatsApp. A commissioned forensic report found with "medium to high confidence" that Bezos' phone was compromised by a video MP4 file he received from the prince in May 2018. An AMI spokesperson previously told CNBC that Michael Sanchez was the single source for the story. However, the report doesn't connect the Saudis to the photos leaked to the Enquirer. The UK-based news daily The Guardian reported last month that Amazon Chief Executive Jeff Bezos' mobile phone was reportedly "hacked" by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) in 2018.

The lawsuit does not specify whether Michael Sanchez provided text messages or photos to American Media, the parent company of the Enquirer, for its 2019 article about Bezos's affair.

A report from The Wall Street Journal said Michael Sanchez granted AMI the right to use the photos and text messages in exchange for $200,000. In his blog post a year ago, Bezos quoted emails sent to de Becker's lawyer by an American Media lawyer and a company executive, who wrote that "the photos obtained during our news gathering" included a nude "below-the-belt selfie".

Jeff Bezos in February past year accused the publisher of National Enquirer, an American tabloid published by American Media Inc (AMI), of "blackmail" and "extortion".
