China says US should not overreact on coronavirus outbreak

Travel and tourism shares also plummeted after a series of governments and airlines imposed drastic restrictions to stop the spread of the virus. Scientists suspect the latest outbreak began at a seafood market in Wuhan where wild animals were on sale and in contact with people.

Beijing says it will help firms that produce vital goods resume work as soon as possible, state broadcaster CCTV reported.

Wuhan and other cities remain in virtual lockdown with travel severely restricted, and China is facing mounting worldwide isolation due to restrictions on flights.

The WHO last week declared the outbreak a global health emergency but advised against travel and trade curbs despite the spread of the virus beyond China's borders.

The study said the new coronavirus is 80% genetically similar to the SARS virus that killed more than 800 people in 2002 and 2003. The first batch of patients are being transferred to Huoshenshan (Fire God Mountain) Hospital, which was delivered on Sunday after a 10-day construction.

More than 7,500 workers took part in the project, launched on January 25 and finished this weekend. A second hospital is scheduled for completion on Wednesday, less than two weeks after construction began. Leishenshan, or "thunder-god mountain", is scheduled to be completed on February 5.

Chinese stocks crash as Wuhan coronavirus fears rampage through markets
The United States, which flew people out last week, planned "a handful more flights", Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said. Treasury prices are lower, lifting the two-year yield 4 bps higher to 1.36% and the 10-year yield up 3 bps to 1.54%; U.S.

A handful of countries like Australia also imposed an entry ban on Chinese travellers shortly after the United States ban.

On a more serious note, Ghebreyesus said his organization is working with Google to tackle spread of "rumors and misinformation" regarding the outbreak, to ensure that people get facts from the WHO when they search about the virus.

It follows the U.S. decision to declare a public health emergency and deny entry to foreign nationals who had visited China in the past two weeks.

In a news briefing on Monday, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said the USA actions "could only create and spread fear" instead of offering assistance - saying it was the first country to impose a travel ban on Chinese travellers and the first to suggest a partial withdrawal of its embassy staff.

Coronavirus is thought to have emerged late previous year in a Wuhan market illegally trading wildlife.
