Republican Muslim candidate Dalia al-Aqidi looks to unseat Omar

Dalia al-Aqidi

Al-Aqidi is an Iraqi refugee and a Muslim, so she superficially resembles Omar.

Several candidates have announced their intention to run against Ilhan Omar in Minnesota's 5th District.

Al-Aqidi fled Iraq with her family in 1988 to escape the tyranny of Saddam Hussein.

"She's spreading hatred, and she is spreading racism throughout not only her district, not only her state, but throughout the whole country - and this is very important", the 51-year-old journalist told the New York Post on Thursday after announcing her bid.

"Muslims, Christians, Jews are all Americans [.] Every time she opens her mouth she says something either anti-US or anti-Semitic", Al-Aqidi claimed, referring to Omar's past comments that have been labeled by some as anti-Semitic. Seeing how terror had affected her family, al-Aqidi says in the video she was happy President Trump ordered the death of Iranian general and terrorist Qasem Soleimani.

Al-Aqidi moved to the U.S. from Iraq in 1988, where she worked as a reporter, continuing her journalism career in America.

Africa Cup’s date switch rocks Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp
I'm ready to do so. "They would be great players, but would they be the superstars they are now?" But we have absolutely no power.

"The difference is that while Dalia has used her life experience to expose oppression and boost the U.S, Omar has done the opposite - stoking fear, inspiring hatred, inciting violence, and embarrassing the US", her campaign website states. "Trashing the other side will get you nowhere", she said, cited by Fox News. "She doesn't represent me as a Muslim". Omar fled Somalia with her family at age nine. She doesn't even talk about homeless situation in Minneapolis, which is extremely cold and there are not enough places of shelters for them to sleep in.

"To put it simply, Ilhan Omar needs to be stopped", al-Aqidi argues.

However, unlike Omar, Aqidi rejects identity politics and the division it brings to America, according to the JPost report. But she couldn't be more different.

"If anyone thinks I'm just running to be in Congress, I would have chosen one of smallest districts in Virginia", she said, "But I chose a battle because I believe in what I'm doing, because I believe in the Constitution and I'm defending the Constitution against people who are working against this country".

"She doesn't care about her district".
