Who Are The Impeachment Managers? Pelosi Unveils Diverse Team For Trump Trial

Protester Laura Albinson of Pasadena Md. greets House members as they leave the Capitol on Friday

Pelosi announced Wednesday at a news conference that the case will be presented by Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., House Democratic Caucus Chairman Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., House Administration Committee Chairwoman Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., Rep. Jason Crow, D-Colo., Rep. Val Demings, D-Fla., and Rep. Sylvia Garcia, D-Texas.

"The president violated his oath of office".

But Crow was one of seven freshmen with national security backgrounds who co-wrote a column in the Washington Post in September arguing it was time to move forward with impeachment. "An impeachment that will last forever", Pelosi said on Wednesday.

Mr Trump was impeached by the House last month, on accusations of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

Trump insists he did nothing wrong and has dismissed the impeachment effort as a "witch hunt".

McConnell said that, as with the impeachment trial of president Bill Clinton in 1999, the witness issue will only be considered after the 100 senators - the jurors in the trial - hear the prosecution and defense arguments.

Some of the materials also show Mr Parnas and Mr Giuliani discussing the removal of then USA ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch.

"They have a lot of conversations, and I don't think there's any problem between the two of them in terms of how their being crisp and clear with each other on the various priorities each has pulling together this trial process", he said.

In the almost four weeks since the House approved the impeachment articles, several Republican senators have indicated a willingness to entertain Democrats' demands for new witnesses and documents.

Brady arrived in Baton Rouge after a two-year stint as an assistant with the New Orleans Saints . Brady received the 2019 Broyles Award as the top assistant coach in college football.

Schiff spearheaded the House impeachment investigation into Trump's dealings with Ukraine and is a frequent target of Trump attacks.

"That time has been very effective in not only bringing new evidence to light - and the evidence was already overwhelming - but also forcing senators to go on the record".

White House spokesperson Stephanie Grisham accused Pelosi of holding the articles of impeachment "in an egregious effort to garner political support". Not only did Trump ultimately release the funds for Ukraine that had been frozen for a time past year, Ukraine's president did not agree to conduct the investigation that Trump wanted into the Bidens. Parnas is cooperating with investigators.

Then shortly after, and echoing the message of Cruz and Paul, McConnell publicly warned Democrats that if they want to call additional witnesses during the proceedings, Republicans will counter with some of their own, and Democrats won't like who's on the GOP list.

It's also a historical precedent that the initial arguments in a Senate trial be limited to the testimony and evidence gathered by the House.

Preliminary trial steps are expected to take place this week, with the trial itself beginning Tuesday and likely lasting several weeks.

A small group of Senate Republicans - including Senators Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski and Mitt Romney - have indicated they may join with Democrats to call new witnesses and testimony in the Senate trial.

McConnell is readying a resolution to set out the rules of the impeachment trial and claims after opening statements there will be a vote to decide if the Republican majority chamber wants to call individuals to testify. Almost $400 million U.S. in Pentagon-approved aid was withheld from Ukraine, released weeks later once it emerged a whistleblower complaint had been initiated regarding a July 25 phone call Trump conducted with Ukraine's president.
