Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announces 2020 class

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2020

Depeche Mode, the Doobie Brothers, Whitney Houston, Nine Inch Nails, The Notorious B.I.G. and T.Rex are the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's 2020 inductees, the organization announced this morning.

The Doobie Brothers, T-Rex, Houston and Notorious B.I.G. made the cut in their first years on the ballot, with the late rapper getting the nod in his first year of eligibility.

Those on the ballot who will have to wait at least one more year to learn the secret RRHOF handshake include Pat Benatar, Dave Matthews Band, Judas Priest, Kraftwerk, MC5, Motorhead, Rufus featuring Chaka Khan, Todd Rundgren, Soundgarden and Thin Lizzy.

In addition, Jon Landau, a former music critic who became Bruce Springsteen's manager and co-producer, and Eagles manager Irving Azoff will receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award, which is given to non-performers who have contributed to the growth of rock "n" roll.

Iowa girl, 4, left blind after weeks-long battle with the flu
Amanda said she couldn't stop her kid from being sick, but if she can save one kid, that's what she would like to do. This is because the predominant virus has been influenza B, which affects children more than adults.

If there's a surprise in this year's group of inductees it is that just one of the artists chosen - the Doobie Brothers - reached the top five of the hall's fan voting.

Performances and special guests will be announced at a later date. Factors such as an artist's musical influence on other artists, length and depth of career and the body of work, innovation and superiority in style and technique are taken into consideration. Most of these inductees, including Houston and Biggie, were also first-time nominees. It is open to the public and tickets will go on sale February 27.

For the first time, the induction ceremony will be carried live on HBO, which previously had aired taped highlights in weeks after the actual event.
