Interrogation on: DySP Davinder Singh sheltered militants at J&K home, say cops

Immediately, police teams were sent to various places, including Singh's residence from where two pistols and an AK rifle were seized.

DSP Singh's arrest appears to be a ruined "false flag" terrorist operation - something Islamabad has repeatedly warned the worldwide community about. Davinder, who was interrogated by various intelligence agencies, including IB, military intelligence and RAW, besides the police, has disclosed that he had put up the terrorists at his Indira Nagar house in Srinagar, right next to the Army's 15 Corps HQ, and thereafter accompanied them to Jammu in a Maruti vehicle driven by the Hizb overground worker, intelligence sources claimed.

Deputy superintendent Davinder Singh had worked for the police for decades and was a member of an elite counter-insurgency force in the disputed territory, which both India and Pakistan claim in full. "Thousands have sacrificed their lives and so one black sheep or one rotten fish can not contaminate the police pond", he said.

He said Singh had brought a bad name to the police force which has made numerous sacrifices in the fight against terrorism over the past 30 years.

Former Director General of Police Kuldeep Khosa praised state police for not hesitating to arrest Singh.

Singh acknowledged in 2006 he had tortured his accuser, Mohammad Afzal Guru, while he was in custody, but the claims were not taken seriously by investigators.

SIT officials, sources said, were poring over the files of the Parliament attack, which was believed to have been masterminded by a non-local Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) "commander", Gazi Baba, who was able to set up links with local people in Kashmir and lived in the congested and secured locality of Qamarwari for many years. The militants were identified as top Hizbul Mujahideen commander Naveed Babu, and his accomplices Irfan and Rafi.

In 2012, Indian police arrested two intelligence officials and two low-ranking police officers for ties with the rebels in the region. Sources privy to the information say that an amount of 7.5 Lakh was recovered from his Indra Nagar house by the forces. He was the second top commander of Hizbul Mujahideen in south Kashmir area after Riyaz Naikoo.

Internet partially restored in Kashmir after 165 days - social media still blocked
Hotels and tour and travel establishments will also be able to have access to broadband internet in order to facilitate tourism. The process, which will be conducted in phases, will start today.

Some reports have also noted that Singh has been booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

India had accused Pakistan based militant groups of launching the attack and resulted in a months-long military stand-off at the border with Pakistan before both the armies retreated under worldwide pressure.

On whether his involvement with militants was a bigger security risk as the officer was posted in the anti-hijacking unit of the police at the Srinagar airport, the IGP said, "The joint interrogation is on in which all agencies, security forces, police, IB, RAW, CID, all are involved and that has been done as this is a sensitive matter and so that no loopholes are there". He also said the J&K police was at par with the NIA to carry out the detailed probe.

The announcement came in light of the recent arrest of Davinder Singh.

Last week, he was among the officers who received New Delhi-based foreign envoys of 15 countries who came to visit the region now under a communications and security lockdown.

Singh had been awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service previous year.

Sources said Naved was allegedly involved in the killing of about a dozen policemen and eleven truckers from Punjab and Rajasthan and also apple traders recently in South Kashmir.
