Father and two young children swept away by wave on shore

A 7-year-old girl has died and a 4-year-old boy is missing after they were swept out to sea while being held by their father in OR on Saturday, officials say.

We don't know her father's condition at this point, but he is expected to survive.

It happened off the OR coast near Falcon Cove shortly before 1 p.m. Police responded to a 911 call from the children's mother, Fox 12 OR reported.

47-year-old Jeremy Stiles of Portland and his 7-year-old daughter were rescued.

Despite the search, captured on video by KPTV, had to be suspended at sunset and the little boy was not located.

An officer arrived to find the man struggling, his daughter farther out in the ocean.

The girl and her father, who also made it back to shore, were both taken to the Providence Seaside Hospital (PSH) by ambulance. A wave picked them all up, sweeping them into the ocean.

'We've exhausted our resources, ' regional Coast Guard spokesman, Petty Officer Steve Strohmaier, said.

According to our media partners at Q13, the Coast Guard suspended their search on Sunday as well.

The agency advised people to avoid beaches and jetties.

The Oregon Coast was battered with massive waves and king tides over the weekend, and the National Weather Service issued high surf warnings, according to the report. Stiles was able to get out of the water, and a Manzanita police officer was able to recover the girl to shore. People can be swept off rocks and jetties and drown while observing high surf.

The names of the child victims have not been released.
