Roxette's Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle entertain fans at Rod Laver Arena

Roxette singer Marie Fredriksson has died aged 61, her manager has confirmed.

The Swedish star has been battling cancer for 17 years and her management team said she died on Monday morning. I'm honoured to have met your talent+generosity. "Things will never be the same".

Fredriksson was first diagnosed with a severe brain tumour in 2002 and underwent an aggressive period of treatment that saw her fight back onto the stage by 2009.

Swedish pop star Marie Fredriksson, whose most iconic hit was It Must Have Been Love, had reportedly been battling a long illness. It's not that long ago we spent days+nights in my tiny apartment sharing impossible dreams. And what a dream we eventually got to share.

The band stopped touring in 2016 after 30 years, citing Fredriksson's health.

Now in the midst of a reconstruction, swapping Love, 31, against younger talents or even draft picks could be a wise move. Cleveland is 5-16 this season and is in the process of a rebuild with first-year coach John Beilein.

Fredriksson began her musical career in Sweden in the 1980s before pairing up with her to-be lifelong friend and band member Per Gessle, creating Roxette in 1986. All my love goes to you+your family.

In 2005, she said: 'It's been three very hard years, I'm healthy.

'I feel nothing but joy and happiness when I look back on the Roxette world tours. "All our shows and memories over the years will forever be a big part of my life", said the singer at the time.

Fredriksson is survived by her husband Mikael Bolyos and their two adult children, Inez Josefin, 26, and Oscar, 23. The funeral will take place in silence with only Marie's closest family present.
