Nationals re-sign Stephen Strasburg to 7-year, $245 million deal

According to the report, the 29-year-old could receive an eight-year contract that would mark the first time in almost 20 years that a pitcher received a contract of that length.

The $245 million surpasses the seven-year, $217 million deal David Price signed with the Boston Red Sox in December 2015 that was the richest contract a pitcher has received in Major League Baseball history.

The Washington Nationals are bringing back their World Series MVP, agreeing to terms with right-handed ace Stephen Strasburg on a seven-year, $245-million deal, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. The highest average value had been Zack Greinke's $34.4 million as part of a $206.5 million, six-year agreement with Arizona prior to the 2016 season. He'll stay in a rotation that also features All-Stars Max Scherzer and Patrick Corbin. Free agent Gerrit Cole likely will break both.

He was 18-6 with a 3.32 ERA this season, topping 30 starts for the second time in his career and leading the NL with 209 innings.

USA reporter vents anger at man who groped her on live TV
He has now been banned from running in future events and the police have been notified about the incident. Several users did a bit of social media sleuthing to identify the man using his race bib number.

In the playoffs, Strasburg went 5-0 including a dominant 8.1-inning effort against the Houston Astros in Game 6 that ultimately helped lead the Nats to the World Series title one day later. He's made 10 trips to the disabled list over seven of those years. Managing principal owner Mark Lerner publicly stated last week he didn't believe the organization could afford to re-sign both Strasburg and Anthony Rendon.

Washington has invested heavily in starting pitching.

Rendon reportedly declined a seven-year contract offer worth between $210 million and $215 million from the Nationals at the end of the regular season. After Donaldson, the free-agent market at third declines sharply, and teams might be better served seeking trade possibilities if they miss out on Rendon and Donaldson.
