London Bridge terror victims died after being stabbed in chest, inquest told

The pair were killed by convicted terrorist Usman Khan - a participant in the rehabilitation programme during some of his roughly eight years of prior imprisonment for terrorism offences.

The heroic worker charged at Khan and thrust the pike into his chest, bravely battling the terrorist head on, despite being slashed five times.

Chowdhury, 29, was jailed along with London Bridge attacker Khan in 2012 for a plot to bomb the London Stock Exchange in 2010.

"The man attacked me, after which he left the building", he said.

Cambridge University graduates Jack Merritt, 25, and Saskia Jones, 23, were stabbed to death by Khan during a prisoner rehabilitation event they were supporting at London's Fishmongers' Hall.

"Saskia was attacked inside Fishmongers' Hall and pronounced deceased at the location at 1425", he said. I am now coming to terms with the whole traumatic incident and would like the space to do this in privacy, with the support of my family.

The statement confirmed Lukasz was stabbed by Khan and taken to hospital but has now returned home. "I would like to send my best wishes to them and everyone effected by this sad and pointless attack", he added.

On Monday, Ms O'Brien was seen breaking down in tears as she and Mr Merritt's family gathered at a vigil in Cambridge to pay tribute to him.

If the most recent terrorist attack in London had been an episode in a satirical novel, it would have been dismissed as too crude or absurd to be plausible.

The extremist, 28, had been freed midway by means of a 16-year jail sentence after he was convicted in February 2012 of being a part of an al-Qaeda impressed group plotting assaults on the London Inventory Alternate.

Mr Hackett said he had had no reason to be suspicious of Khan, who "didn't do anything to make himself look strange" and would occasionally acknowledge him at the front door.

Khan, who was released from prison in December 2018 after serving half of his sentence, was later shot dead by police on London Bridge.

Mr Merritt's father David wrote in the Guardian how his son would have been "livid" at how his death has been used to "perpetuate an agenda of hate", amid criticism of the prime minister for politicising the tragedy.

Ms Jones' family said their daughter, from Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire, had a "great passion" for supporting victims of criminal justice.

Boris Johnson has sought to blame Labour for the release of Khan, promising a tougher stance on the release of prisoners if his Conservative party win a majority.

Armed with two knives and wearing a fake suicide vest, he was tackled by members of the public, including ex-offenders from the conference, before he was shot dead by police.

He blamed Khan's release on legislation introduced under "a leftie government", and called for longer sentences and an end to automatic release.
