Armed student confronts resource officer at high school

School in Oshkosh Wisc

Kate Mann, spokeswoman for the Oshkosh Police Department, confirmed that an armed student confronted an officer and that both people were hospitalized, but she did not immediately respond to further questions about the incident.

News 8000 reports that the armed student at Oshkosh West High School "reportedly confronted a school resource officer", and was shot thereafter.

Police said the SRO made efforts to secure the classroom by getting the other students to safety. Parents can meet with their children there.

This incident is being turned over to the State Department of Criminal Investigation.

This is a developing story.

Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul, a Democrat, said the two shootings reinforced the need to identify troubled students and get them the mental health services they need to prevent violence before it occurs.

Pastor Seelman said some students came into the church, and he walked them to a bus to be transported to Perry Tipler Middle School.

The student then allegedly "removed the handgun from his waistband" and pointed it at the officer, who then shot the student. After a thorough investigation, no arrests were made, and all the students involved in this incident will be dealt with administratively through the school district. The 17-year-old boy was wounded.

"These are really tragic incidents but it's also true we have seen incidents where there has been mass tragedy", Kaul said. Armed school resource officers have rarely prevented a school shooting. They went over the intercom and everyone was freaking out over the intercom.

That shooting happened after another student told a school resource officer that a classmate had a handgun, Jack said.
