After US decision, Israel plans new Hebron settlement

Israeli defense minister in historic move OKs new Jewish neighborhood in Hebron

The Ministry of Defense said Sunday that Naftali Bennett had instructed the departments responsible for the occupied West Bank to "notify the municipality of Hebron about planning a new Jewish neighborhood in the wholesale market complex", according to local media reports.

Government offices, universities and schools were shut down as rallies took hold of city centres in the West Bank in protest of the US decision.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society said in a short press statement that the Israeli soldiers prevented its medical crews from reaching the area where the young man was shot.

Palestine has repeatedly threatened to resort to the United Nations, the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice against Israeli violations in three main areas, namely the Israeli settlement activity, the Israeli military offensive on Gaza and Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.

An army spokesperson said soldiers on an "anti-terrorist operation" near the village saw three Palestinians throwing petrol bombs at a military vehicle and opened fire, hitting one.

Man killed by booby trap he set up in his own home
In September final yr, a person in IL was killed when he opened a neighbour's shed that had been rigged to fireside a shotgun. And in October final yr a man in OR was charged after fortifying his home "like a scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark".

Hebron is holy to both Muslims and Jews and sees frequent clashes between Palestinians and Israeli forces.

Last month, Pompeo announced that the USA government will no longer consider Israel's West Bank settlements "inconsistent" with worldwide law. Israel annexed east Jerusalem in a move not recognized overseas and regards the entire city as its eternal indivisible capital.

USA support for Israel's expansion of its illegal settlement programme and annexation of Palestinian territory is in breach of global resolutions and worldwide law, the parties warned, and is a threat to a "just peace" in the region.

The move comes amid political turmoil in Israel after general elections in April and September ended in deadlock.

Demonstrations erupted in the West Bank on Tuesday, in a direct response to the declaration by the United States that they no longer believe Israeli settlements to be in violation of worldwide law. "We'll stay in it forever", he said.
