Woody Allen settles lawsuit against Amazon over film deal

Woody Allen Amazon end legal dispute over movie deal

Woody Allen arrives on the red carpet at the "Wonder Wheel" screening at Museum of Modern Art on November 14, 2017 in New York City.

Woody Allen gave up four movie deals and has reached a legal settlement with Amazon Studios.

Allen did not attend the April hearing; his lawyer, John Quinn, told the judge that Amazon initially claimed it was ending the deal because of sexual abuse allegations made against Allen, not because of his incendiary remarks.

That led to the company refusing to distribute "Rainy Day in New York" and Allen reacted by filing a lawsuit for breach of contract for an amount of $ 68 million.

The two parties agreed to have the case voluntarily dismissed over the weekend, according to court documents. However, his first film for the streaming service, A Rainy Day in NY, was shelved in 2018 after his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, repeated allegations that Allen had molested her when she was a child. Allen sued in February, claiming Amazon unilaterally withdraw from the agreement because of allegations by his estranged daughter, Dylan Farrow, that he had been molested when she was seven-years-old.

Lawyers for Amazon Studios argued that Allen's comments about the #MeToo movement a year ago "sabotaged" its attempts to promote his new movies.

Allen said Amazon had canceled the deal because of a "25-year-old baseless allegation".

"Ratings of actors and actresses expressed profound remorse for having worked with Allen within the past, and many declared publicly that they'd under no circumstances work with him in due route". "Allen's actions and their cascading consequences ensured that Amazon could never possibly receive the benefit of its four-picture agreement".
