Djokovic romps to victory in ATP Finals opener

Rafael Nadal hopeful to play both ATP Finals and Davis Cup despite injury

Djokovic, jostling with Rafael Nadal to finish the year as world number one, swept aside O2 debutant Matteo Berrettini 6-2 6-1 in a shade over an hour.

Germany's Alexander Zverev shocked Djokovic in last year's final at the O2 Arena but the Serbian is the firm favourite to equal Roger Federer's tally of six ATP Finals titles after cantering to victory at last week's Paris Masters.

Federer said: "I thought the match was actually pretty even for a long period of time". Nadal is bidding to clinch the year-end number one spot in the ATP rankings for a fifth time - he is now 640 points ahead of Djokovic ahead of the season-ending tournament in London, starting tomorrow.

Nadal, who has never won the event, is bidding to clinch the year-end number one spot in the ATP rankings for the fifth time.

He has often struggled with injuries towards the end of the season - missing the ATP Finals previous year through injury and pulling out after just one match in 2017. He said, "I started serving from yesterday, that too slow".

"Sometimes, you know, the crowd is on your side, the majority of the crowd is on your side, and sometimes it's against you".

Iran's president: New oil field found with over 50B barrels
The 80-metre deep field stretches almost 200 kilometres from Khuzestan's border with Iraq to the city of Omidiyeh, Rouhani added. Iran now has the world's fourth-largest proven deposits of crude oil and the world's second-largest deposits of natural gas.

"I thought also Dominic saved himself real well when he had to, so I thought he played a tough first-round performance today". I'm not feeling uncomfortable because I haven't really served. I've been enjoying it very much. The 19-time Grand Slam victor said, "I am sure that I will compete well, but this tournament is what you play with the top players, so you have to be 100 percent prepared". 'I really hope that I will be able to serve every single day better.

Nadal, in Group Andre Agassi, begins his campaign on Monday against defending champion Zverev.

This will be the first time that Matteo Berrettini and Novak Djokovic will be playing each other at an ATP event.

Djokovic, who won the Australian Open and Wimbledon this season, must reach the final to stand any chance of dislodging Nadal but there are major questions over the Spaniard's fitness.

Thiem served and returned superbly, improving his record against Federer to five victories and two defeats as he bids to end a fruitful 2019 by claiming a sixth title of the year. 'One of the two biggest achievements that you can have as a professional competitive tennis player - winning a Grand Slam and being number one in the world at the end of the season, he said.
