Police outside Bolivia's presidential palace abandon posts

Police who are against the reelection of President Evo Morales protest in Cochabamba Bolivia Friday Nov. 8 2019. Opposing sides in Bolivia's political divide held fast to their positions Friday after 17 days of violent protests over the legitimac

"Before the global community, we denounce this attack on the rule of law".

The president's remarks followed local media reports that police units in at least four regions had made a decision to rebel against the government.

Later, Morales went on Twitter to warn that "our democracy is at risk from the coup d'etat put in place by violent groups that are attacking the constitutional order".

Camacho plans to lead a march to the government palace on Monday with a symbolic resignation letter for Morales to sign.

Units in the southeastern city of Sucre and the opposition stronghold of Santa Cruz said they were joining a rebellion launched by police officers in the central city of Cochabamba.

Buses carrying opposition activists to La Paz came under attack Saturday by Morales supporters in rural Vila Vila, about 100 miles (160 kilometers) southeast of La Paz, an opposition leader, Rodrigo Echalar, said on television.

The Bolivian government has been facing widespread protests after the opposition alleged fraud in the counting of votes for the October 20 elections, with Morales being declared an outright victor in results even though the two main candidates had seemed to be heading for a runoff.

Defense Minister Javier Zabaleta said a "police mutiny occurred in a few regions", but he rejected the idea of a military intervention "at this time". Three people have been killed and more than 300 injured.

Luis Fernando Camacho, a self-styled opposition leader who the government accused of inciting a coup, tweeted that he "cried with joy" and thanked the police for "siding with the people". But a 24-hour lapse in releasing vote results fueled allegations of fraud by the opposition.

He is an exceptional goalkeeper and has played a lot of games for Chile. "I don't think we struggle with convincing players". Jurgen Klopp's men now hold a six-point lead over the defending champions after 11 games, having not lost a match so far.

"We want to support the police so they feel encouraged to join us", said 21-year-old student Alexander Jiménez. Police officers in other cities left the streets and returned to their stations, without explaining why.

Police reports that joined the protests added pressure on Morales.

On Saturday, uniformed police mixed with anti-government protesters outside the Presidential Palace inLa Paz.

Quiroga reminded the troops that five former military chiefs remain in prison over the deaths in 2003 of anti-government protesters.

The opposition has been demanding Morales' resignation and fresh elections.

Demonstrations on Friday were the first to include large numbers of police, though the scale was unclear.

Morales has insisted that the October elections were fair and transparent.

The Organization of American States is conducting an audit of the election count and their findings are expected next week.
