2 dead, 7 missing in Australia wildfires

A water bombing helicopter flies over a bushfire as residents look on in Forster New South Wales Australia on Nov 7 2019

Bushfires have wiped out about half the koalas living on a coastal reserve in New South Wales, experts estimated on Friday, as a record number of intense fires rage around the Australian state.

However, the Rural Fire Service tweeted on Friday they "couldn't get to everyone" affected by the fires.

At least two people have died and 100 homes have been destroyed as an unprecedented number of bushfires tore through eastern Australia Saturday. Five people missing have been located.

Danger in the Far North Coast, New England, Far South Coast, Southern Ranges and Lower Central West Plains has been rated as "severe".

While cooler weather eased some of the immediate pressure yesterday, the authorities warned of "catastrophic" fire conditions ahead, including around Sydney.

"Tuesday 12 November will be a risky day", it tweeted.

At the end of August, the RFS brought forward by a month the start of the bushfire danger period for more than 70 local government areas, as a precaution against the looming warm, dry conditions. Eleven fires remain at a watch and act level.

"We're expecting very similar conditions in Western Australia over the next few days".

"All of those sorts of things - they get consumed in the path of a volatile fast-moving fire".

He said dozens of fires are still at risk of affecting properties on Saturday.

More than 150 homes have been destroyed, and a school in Glen Innes, NSW, has been severely damaged.

'These are really extraordinary circumstances, particularly at this time of the year, at the beginning of the season or before the normal bushfire season, ' Mr Albanese said.

Forster also revealed that Celtic will now be aiming to top their group. Celtic skipper Scott Brown described the victory as "exceptional".

Mr Fitzsimmons said along with the 1300 firefighters on the ground right now from across Australia and New Zealand, they were in contact with colleagues from Canada and the United States for possible help in light of Tuesday's predicted forecast.

"The more forensic process of getting in and doing the detailed assessments will come over coming days".

Prime Minister Scott Morrison refused to answer a question about the link between climate change and raging bushfires.

'We can not take this for granted, this a very, very frightening circumstance that people have to take seriously, ' Mr Littleproud told Sky News on Sunday.

Earlier, Rural Fire Service Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons revealed two people had died in the Kangawalla fire at Diehard, 50 km east of Glen Innes in Northern NSW.

They were also in discussions with the Australian Defence Force.

The NSW Police reported Saturday morning that a third person was confirmed dead after their body was found in a burnt-out building north of Taree, about 215 miles north of the capital of Sydney. "I tried so many times", Harwood added.

Wytaliba resident Vivian Chaplain (69) has also been named as one of the victims. - NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said at RFS NSW headquarters.

Thousands of residents in Queensland have been evacuated and authorities warned severe fire danger was expected on Wednesday, with little reprieve this year.

"It is a sobering reminder of what is ahead, with the outlook indicating the next three or four months is dominated by above-average temperatures, below-average rainfall and unfortunately there is no meaningful signal anywhere for drought-breaking, relieving rain", he said.
