Wife identifies man's arm found in shark

Tiger sharks are common visitors of the reefs north of the Bahamas in the Caribbean

Reunion Island is infamous for shark attacks - there have been two fatal incidents this year - and local authorities had implemented a ban on swimming and watersports across virtually all of the island's beaches following attacks back in 2013.

He was reported missing by his wife Verity on Sunday and the grizzly remains of the hand were found inside the stomach of a three-metre tiger shark after they were brought ashore.

The British tourist, who has been reported to be a strong swimmer, had gone out snorkelling in the Hermitage Lagoon, off Saint-Gilles, alone on Saturday.

A Brit who was eaten by a shark has been pictured for the first time after his wife forced to identify him by his arm and wedding ring found inside the predator.

The victim, identified as civil servant Richard Martyn Turner, from Edinburgh, was snorkelling by himself in waters off the Reunion Island, a French department in the Indian Ocean, where four sharks were later caught, The Daily Mail reported citing Scottish media reports as saying.

The spokesperson of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office has sent their support to the family of the victim. It's not known yet, however, whether he was attacked by the shark or was eaten after he drowned.

"Divers searched around a coral reef in the area, and there were also patrols on land involving sniffer dogs".

A severed arm was found inside a dead tiger shark and island prosecutor Eric Tuffery said a preliminary investigation showed it belonged to Mr Turner.

In September, a 46-year-old tourist from Tasmania was attacked while swimming near a yacht.

According to reports, the hand was wearing a ring which the man's wife confirmed was her husband's.

Then, on Monday and Tuesday, several sharks were caught for studying purposes in the Indian Ocean by Centre de Securite Requin (CSR).
