Ivanka Trump Says Whistleblower's Name Not Relevant to Impeachment Probe on President

Trump's Bad Election Night Shows Economy May Not Be 2020 Guide

The whistleblower was originally scheduled to testify to the House Intelligence Committee in a closed-door hearing, but Democrats have said since then that such testimony would be redundant since other impeachment witnesses have corroborated the claims in the complaint. The person offered to answer written questions directly from Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee - on the condition that his or her identity would still be hidden but verified by the inspector general of the intelligence community.

Jordan has been the leading Republican in the closed-door impeachment inquiry depositions that have been conducted jointly by the House Intelligence, Oversight and Foreign Affairs panels.

Jordan is the top Republican member of the House Oversight Committee. After impeachment wraps up, Crawford says he'll be back on the committee. So Rep. Rick Crawford (R-Ark.) is temporarily resigning from the committee and McCarthy is giving his spot to Jordan.

"In Speaker Pelosi's House, those responsibilities have fallen victim to partisan witch hunts", McCarthy added. "Given that you have reneged on your public commitment to let the committees interview the whistleblower directly, you are the only individual who can provide clarity as to these conversations".

The whistleblower filed a complaint over the July 25 phone call between President Donald Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, where he expressed a desire to have Ukraine investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and Hunter Biden, his son.

Donald Trump Jr broke strict conventions for protecting officials who reveal wrongdoing in government when he tweeted out the name. The announcement comes before impeachment hearings become open to the public, which the Committee's Chairman Adam Schiff announced this week.

The first public hearings will take place next Wednesday and Friday.

The first public hearing features Taylor, the acting US ambassador to Ukraine, who already testified to congress members in closed-door meetings.
