CJI Rajan Gogoi meets top UP govt officials ahead of Ayodhya verdict

Ayodhya verdict UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asked for two helicopters to be on standby to tackle any possible emergency

A five-judge constitution bench, presided by the Chief Justice, started the day-to-day hearing in the Ayodhya land dispute case on 6 August after mediation between the Hindu and Muslim claimants failed.

The apex court would pronounce its judgement tomorrow at 10:30 am in the morning.

Indian police have arrested more than 500 people ahead of a Supreme Court ruling on a hotly disputed religious site in the city of Ayodhya, media reports said, with authorities fearing the verdict could trigger unrest.

"Each and every security officer is committed to prevent minor skirmishes or large-scale riots after the court delivers its verdict", said a senior home ministry official in New Delhi.

The Centre has also given order to deploy 40 companies - around 4,000 personnel - of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) or paramilitary force in Ayodhya that includes 16 companies of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), around six companies each of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Central Industrial Security (CISF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and RAF.

The Yogi government has also asked officials to set up 24x7 master control room to monitor developments ahead of the verdict. He also ordered for a helicopter to be kept on standby in Ayodhya and Lucknow.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to pronounce on Saturday its verdict in the Ram Janmbhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case.

Navaid Hamid, president of the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat, the top forum for Islamic organisations, said thousands of Muslim religious leaders had pledged to maintain peace and harmony after the court verdict.

The circular was delivered to Uttar Pradesh's Chief Secretary Rajendra Kumar Tiwari, Director General of Police O.P. Singh and other departments concerned to avoid last-minute glitches, the source said. "Now when SC is giving order, govt can't take credit for it".
