Aston Martin Picks Beijing for SUV Launch With China Key to Future

We get the first interior photo of the new Aston Martin DBX SUV - due to debut on 20 November - and a price for Aston's Bentayga competitor.

In its press release, Aston touts the fact that the DBX was created to accommodate people of all sizes from the 5th percentile female to the 99th percentile male and that it was able to offer such a wide range of fit from an ergonomic standpoint because the DBX rides on a bespoke chassis (unlike, say, the Bentayga, Urus or Cayenne Turbo). In the world of Aston Martin, the new DBX SUV surprisingly delivers good value for money. The decision to use an all-new platform and its longer wheelbase allowed designers to optimize cabin space while keeping the low roofline.

Over six months were spent exclusively focused on defining the position of the driver within the vehicle, with enough movement in the driver's seat and steering column to allow clear visibility of all controls, screens and through windows. In fact, Aston said the driver's seating position allows a clear and unperturbed view of the vehicle's bonnet. Laying out the interior buttons required "external counsel, including the brand's Female Advisory Board, and multiple customer clinics with HNWIs [high-net-worth individuals] of mixed demographic". Among the cabin's standout features is the bridged centre console, which combines a floating aesthetic with storage space for larger items such as a handbag or 1.5 litre water bottles, according to Aston Martin. The needs of children were also considered extensively and, in a new exercise for Aston Martin, a group of children were invited to share their experience of ingress and egress and sitting in an ergonomic assessment model at the company's design studio. As a result, the rear seats are reportedly kid-approved and spacious. All this consultation and feedback has led to class-leading front and rear legroom, says Aston Martin, as well as a "fantastic feeling of airiness" thanks to the DBX's windows and full-length panoramic glass roof.

Evansville Museum Hosting Transit of Mercury Viewing Early Monday at Reitz Hill
On the news side, remember that the probe BepiColombo, launched a year ago to study Mercury, is still on the way to the planet. Because Mercury is so small and far away from Earth, a telescope with a proper Sun filter is required to safely see it.

There's space at the rear too. Aston Martin argues its sports auto experience has helped here; "Wherever you sit in DBX, there is a sense of space and lightness".

Production of the DBX is planned to start in Aston's new Wales factory before the end of this year, with Australia deliveries expected by the middle of 2020.
