Southgate accepts reality Czech in Prague and promises better in Bulgaria

"I think it was down to us".

Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham said earlier this week that he and his England teammates would be prepared to walk off the pitch should a similar situation arise in Prague or against Bulgaria in Sofia on Monday.

Manager Gareth Southgate defended individual players from criticism but said that his team needed to be better when not in possession.

England's sloppy defending for both goals didn't go unnoticed and Keane was quick to point the finger at the Tottenham man for losing his concentration on multiple occasions.

"Clearly that's not a night that we wanted to be a part of in terms of that record", Southgate said. "We had a meeting as a group and Gareth [Southgate] sat us down and explained UEFA's protocol".

"Our performance was not good enough, it's as simple as that".

"We probably should've got a draw out of it, but in the end the goal we conceded was typical of the chances we gave up throughout the night".

Second Turkish Officer Killed in Country's Offensive in Northern Syria - Defence Minister
Seven Turkish civilians including a nine-month-old baby were killed in Turkey's border towns in Sanliurfa and Mardin provinces. With the exception of Qatar, an ally of Ankara's, countries lined up to criticise the Turkish offensive.

"I think it's unfortunate because you can foresee the risk". It is going to be an interesting couple of days because we have not had a result like that or a performance like that.

"We've got plenty to look back on but we have to accept collectively there weren't enough good performances". We have to respond in the right way. "But we conceded too many poor chances and we gave the ball away too many times".

"It was a 100 per cent performance and that is the only way to succeed really, so we are very happy and I think time will show that we made history tonight because we defeated England after so many years and at a time when they are playing really well".

"We tried to change the shape in the first half but it didn't work as well as it might", admitted Southgate.

"The most important thing for me was that all of the players and all of the staff know that they're supported, that we're together on every issue moving forward".

"I'm obviously over the moon but I have to thank my players, first and foremost, because they played great", he said.
