Robert Forster, Oscar nominee for 'Jackie Brown,' dies at 78

Forster had a movie career spanning more than 50 years.

Robert Forster - who appeared in more than 100 films throughout his career, including the new Breaking Bad movie - has died. A lovely man and a consummate actor.

Forster made an auspicious debut at age 26 opposite Marlon Brando and Elizabeth Taylor in John Huston's 1967 film Reflections in a Golden Eye, memorably riding a horse naked in one scene. Sadly, his death comes on the very day that El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie premiered on Netflix, where he reprised his role as Ed, a vacuum salesman with deep connections to the criminal underground.

His acting skills were recognised by Quentin Tarantino created the role of Max Cherry with him in mind, and like several other actors, it helped him win a whole new audience and saw his career rejuvenated.

"I never forgot how kind and generous he was to a young kid just starting out in Hollywood", Cranston wrote in the tweet.

Jane Fonda Arrested on Steps of Capitol Building in Climate Change Protest
I got up, and as I started to walk back to the auto with the translator, the implication of what had just happened hit me. She moved to Washington DC to be greater involved in the fight against climate change , she said.

After Jackie Brown, he worked consistently and at a decidedly higher level than during the "slump", appearing in films like David Lynch's Mulholland Drive, Me, Myself and Irene, The Descendants, Olympus Has Fallen, and What They Had, and in television shows like Breaking Bad and the Twin Peaks revival.

Forster in an interview with the Chicago Tribune in 2018 recalled going almost two years without a job in a period of struggle before being cast in "Jackie Brown". He followed that with the lead role in 1969's Medium Cool, Haskell Wexler's cinéma vérité-style narrative built around the real-life riots at the 1968 Democratic National Convention.

"Seriously. I got lucky every step of the way", he said.

Forster is survived by his children: Bobby, Elizabeth, Kate and Maeghen; his grandchildren: Tess, Liam, Jack and Olivia; and partner, Denise Grayson.
