Blizzard employees protest over banned pro-Hong Kong Hearthstone player

"Revolution of our age!" Blitzchung was also wearing a similar mask when he appeared on the stream. At their peak, the protests have seen around a seventh of Hong Kong's entire population take to the streets.

"Today, what I have lost in Hearthstone is four years of time", he said, referring to the time and energy he's dedicated to play the game professionally.

Phoenix Bruneau, 15, is boycotting Hearthstone.

He says, "Much of their current revenue and plans for future revenue are rooted in China", adding, "I don't expect them to change, but I can still express my opinion and take a stand".

Blizzard quoted its Hearthstone competition rule book, stating that "Engaging in any act that, in Blizzard's sole discretion, brings you into public disrepute, offends a portion or group of the public, or otherwise damages Blizzard image will result in removal from Grandmasters and reduction of the player's prize total to $0 Dollars".

"The director only told me I have an interview", he said.

Another game developer, Epic Games, stated that they support "everyone's right to express their views on politics and human rights".

Knowing the Pixelbook and Pixel Slate were expensive Chrome devices from Google, I can't imagine this being cheap. For connectivity, this laptop might come with Two USB-C ports, 3.5mm headphone jack, WiFi and Bluetooth options.

In a tweet that has since been deleted, Justin "Jayne" Conroy, an assistant coach for the Dallas Fuel, accused Blizzard of "censorship" and draconian enforcement of its rules, according to a report from Tommy Magelssen of the Dallas Morning News.

Another interesting form of protest was using Overwatch's Mei as a symbol of Hong Kong's protests.

Protests in Hong Kong started in June after the government announced criminal suspects would be sent to China for trial.

Ongoing demonstrations in Hong Kong have taken place since March this year.

Blitzchung has been taking part in the protests, which he said sometimes got in the way of his work on the Grandmasters match. Little did he know how far-fetched the consequences of his actions might have gone. It could cause me lot of trouble, even my personal safety in real life.

Hours after Blizzard announced Blitzchung's ban, a former Blizzard employee tweeted that some backlash seemed to be brewing internally: Someone had covered up two of the company's key values - "Think Globally" and "Every Voice Matters" - enshrined on a statue at the company's headquarters. Plates with the words "Think globally" and "Every voice matters" at the entrance of the company headquarters in Irvine - California - had been covered yesterday, training employee Kevin Hovdestad reported on Twitter. Blizzard responded on Tuesday with an announcement that it would be suspending Blitzchung for a year, forcing him to forfeit $10,000 in prize money that he had been awarded, and firing the commentators who conducted the interview.
