Two killed in shooting in eastern Germany near synagogue

Police said they were looking for suspects who fled the scene

Witnesses to an attack outside a synagogue in Halle, Germany, which killed two people on Wednesday say the perpetrators had donned combat-style clothing and were armed with multiple weapons. Pictures from the scene showed a body lying in the street behind a police cordon.

Several people also have been injured, Halle police spokesman Thomas Mueller told CNN.

"According to initial findings, two people were killed in Halle", local police said on Twitter.

Several shots were fired and the suspects then fled in a vehicle, police said in a tweet. "Please stay at home or look for another secure place". It remains unclear, however, whether the synagogue is related to the shooting, although it took place the same day as Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year in Judaism.
