North Korea says it's willing to resume nuke talks with US

President Donald Trump announced he had fired John Bolton (above) a day after North Korea signaled a new willingness to resume stalled denuclearization talks.

South Korea's military said Tuesday that the North had launched "unidentified projectiles" from the Kaechon area in South Pyongan province.

Joe Scarborough expressed shock and amazement that President Donald Trump's oval office comments from Wednesday in which he seemed to take sides with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un over his own, now-former, National Security Advisor John Bolton.

While analysts said North Korea conducts weapons tests for a range of purposes, including technical development and reassurance for the defence establishment, Tuesday's launches appeared to have been timed to send a message to Washington regarding what may happen if the U.S. does not come to North Korea with realistic proposals.

In April, Kim said he was open to another summit with Trump but set the end of the year as a deadline for the U.S.to offer improved terms for an agreement to revive the nuclear diplomacy.

While offering talks, North Korea still warned its dealings with the USA may end if Washington fails to come to the negotiating table without new acceptable proposals.

North Korea was due to come into focus when UN General Assembly meeting starts next week in NY after a UN Security Panel report said Pyongyang was violating sanctions to help fund its weapons program.

Harry Kazianis, a North Korea expert at Washington's Center for the National Interest think tank, said Trump was now free to find a national security adviser opposed to wars of regime change and willing to back a diplomatic track with North Korea. North Korea often ratchets up military tensions ahead of negotiations meant to end its nuclear ambitions. After their latest meeting, the USA said Kim had agreed to begin detailed negotiations by mid-July.

Trump and Kim had agreed to restart working-level talks during a meeting at the Demilitarized Zone dividing the Korean peninsula in June, but those talks have yet to begin.

North Korea has also conducted at least eight test launches since then, usually with multiple missiles each time. It quoted Kim as saying what remains to be done is "running fire test".

North Korea's official media has repeatedly denounced U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and urged Trump to replace him with a "more mature" interlocutor.
