Tommy Robinson slapped with 9 months in jail for ‘contempt of court’

Those images, according to Reuters, had revealed the identities of defendants accused of sexually exploiting young girls, while jurors were still weighing the outcome of their case.

TOMMY ROBINSON has been jailed for nine months today after being found guilty of contempt of court.

A number of both pro- and anti-Robinson demonstrators gathered outside the court, creating a febrile atmosphere as they waited for the verdict, with confrontations with the police and smoke bombs being let off.

Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, AKA Tommy Robinson, has today been sentenced to 6 months in prison for committing contempt of court by filming outside Leeds Crown Court during a trial. Some pelted police with bottles and cans and officers donned their helmets.

"Posting material online that breaches reporting restrictions or risks prejudicing legal proceedings has consequences, and I would urge everyone to think carefully about whether their social media posts could amount to contempt of court", he said.

The judges also rejected claims by Yaxley-Lennon that he had made checks in the court about reporting restrictions.

Tommy Robinson supporters stand outside the Old Bailey courthouse in London on Thursday, where clashes are reported to have become violent.

Robinson, 36, denied any wrongdoing, saying he did not believe he was breaching any reporting restrictions and had only referred to information that was already in the public domain.

1 in 3 Binged on Entire 'Stranger Things' Season 3
According to Netflix , 40.7 million "household accounts" worldwide watched Stranger Things Season 3 after its first four days. As we said, it's pretty obvious all these things are on the table considering how the season ended.

The video was eventually viewed 3.4 million times after being shared following his arrest.

During the 2018 case at Leeds Crown Court, reporting restrictions had been put in place postponing the publication of any details until the end of a series of linked trials involving 29 defendants.

Dame Victoria Sharp told Robinson that the time he previously spent behind bars for the contempt will be taken into account, reducing his sentence to 19 weeks - of which he will serve half before being released.

The case then was referred to Attorney General Geoffrey Cox in May of this year after High Court judges approved his request to bring fresh proceedings against Robinson, citing public interest, Sky News reported.

- Tommy Robinson's offer of EU Parliament salary to grooming victims branded 'insult'He served 10 weeks in jail before being freed after the original finding of contempt was overturned by the Court of Appeal in August 2018.

Robinson's barrister Richard Furlong raised the possibility of an appeal against the court's decision and was told he has 28 days to apply.

He referred to the sentence as an "absolute joke", having arrived at court in a t-shirt that said "Convicted of Journalism" with a design comparing the United Kingdom to North Korea on the back.
