Jury convicts ex-NFL player of rape, mulls 8 other charges

Former Browns and Buccaneers tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. was found guilty on Monday of raping a 58-year-old woman, per Yahoo Sports's Dan Wetzel.

The North County jury in Vista, California, near San Diego, which has been deliberating since last week, reached verdicts on four of 12 counts filed against the former Hurricanes star.

Winslow, who was drafted sixth overall by the Browns in 2004 and played for Cleveland for five years, also was convicted of two counts of lewd conduct involving two other women.

Jurors were deadlocked on the eight other counts Winslow faces and continue to deliberate, according to the courtroom footage.

Winslow did not take the stand to defend himself during the nine-day trial.

The homeless woman in Encinitas, who was 58 at the time, testified that he befriended her and attacked her next to his vehicle after inviting her for a coffee in May 2018.

The two other counts of rape involve a 54-year-old hitchhiker and an unconscious teenage girl in 2003.

Trump Threatens China Tariffs if Xi Jinping Refuses to Meet
When asked whether US actions against Huawei could set the USA back on 5G, Trump said "No". He said that he wants China to do well, but that "I don't want them to do as well as us".

The accusers included a hitchhiker and a homeless woman who said they'd been raped in his SUV, and a woman who said a stranger exposed himself in her yard.

Winslow II grew up in San Diego and attended Patrick Henry and Scripps Ranch high schools before heading to the University of Miami. The panel found him not guilty of a second count of committing a lewd act, which prosecutors said happened in front of a woman in a hot tub in Carlsbad.

According to the same report, the jury has been ordered to return Tuesday to try to come to a conclusion on the remaining eight charges against Winslow.

The panel on Friday sent a note to the judge indicating it was possibly struggling to find agreement.

"Lightning doesn't strike twice, let alone five times", Owens said during his closing argument to the jury. "Additionally, how we should follow the law and not what we think the law means". He was hit with 12 charges total, and the jury returned a verdict on four of them late Monday.

Defense attorney Marc Carlos questioned the credibility of the women's claims, saying they had lied, misconstrued things or were unable to initially identify him correctly.

Defense lawyers argued during the trial that all instances of sex were consensual, and even used a defense that he repeatedly cheated on his wife throughout their marriage. Prosecutors say the crux of their testimonies remained unchanged.
