LG TVs Get Smarter With Google Assistant Voice Controls And ThinQ AI

As per Google's demo, which involved the AI assistant making a supposedly real call to book an appointment at a hair salon, there was no indication the call was from a computer.

As a result of the fallout, Google has finally brought some clarity to the matter.

Hopefully, this isn't the case with "Duplex", an artificial-intelligence feature of Google Assistant that made an eerily human-like phone call, complete with "mmhmms" and pauses, to book a haircut appointment.

Google Duplex has been announced earlier this week at the Google I/O conference. We want to be clear about the intent of the call so businesses understand the context.

One feature - Google Duplex - can make phone calls for you and talk to the person on the other end to schedule appointments and make reservations.

"We recognize the importance of the discussion about Google Duplex - and, as stated at the outset, we have to consider full transparency of the technology".

Malaysia to swear in world's oldest leader Mahathir Mohamad, aged 92
Both he and Anwar were formerly in power, as part of the BN, as prime minister and deputy respectively. At 92, he is the world's oldest elected leader.

Google pushes back that robocalls are used to sell a product and rely on callers picking up the phone and agreeing to buy something, as opposed to bots doing something on behalf of the consumer, say making reservations and checking holiday hours.

Google already showed some visual updates of the latest Android P in which we can see new notifications and other upgrades which is setting the stage for the top notch.

As part of planned updates to the technology Google is now working on making Assistant more visually assistive. The company said it still needs to test how people respond to it. "But it's equally clear that we can't just be wide-eyed about what we create", wrote the CEO. Google I/O is a developer conference after all, and its sole goal is to help developers better integrate with Google's platforms and services to increase customer engagement as well. "We'll be experimenting with the right approach over the coming months". "Is it going to encourage rampant disrespect and awfulness as we learn that some human voices are not really human?" And should the people answering at the other end be told that they are talking to a robot?

Another Google staffer privately questioned if the response would have been as visceral if Google showed Duplex handling more-annoying consumer predicaments, like a billing issue with a cable TV provider.

How Google, a pioneer in fields such as AI, handles such ethical dilemmas will determine the level of trust and confidence that people will have in such technologies moving forward, as their flexibility of application promises far-reaching consequences for the human race.

Not five minutes after we got done discussing the myriad privacy and security concerns that a technology like Google Duplex raises, Google went ahead and said it's aware of those potential problems. Google Duplex will enter testing sometime this summer, and it's exciting what it will be able to do!
