Minnesota Twins, 3B Josh Donaldson agree to $92M, 4-year deal

In one loud move Twins land Josh Donaldson and make their statement

Donaldson, 34, won the National League Comeback Player of the Year award while playing for the Atlanta Braves last season on a one-year, $23 million contract.

The former Toronto Blue Jays All-Star and 2015 AL MVP spent past year with the Atlanta Braves, hitting.259/.379/.521 with 37 home runs and 94 RBIs in 155 games.

It will pay him $84 million over the first four years and includes a $16 million club option with an $8 million buyout.

Donaldson was the American League Most Valuable Player in 2015, the middle of his three seasons as an AL All-Star. He hit.259 with 37 home runs, 94 RBIs, 96 runs and 100 walks in 155 games. He missed significant time in 2018 due to injuries; it was the only season since 2012 in which he played fewer than 100 games.

Donaldson has made postseason appearances in seven of the past eight years.

After striking out on the top-tier starting pitchers on the market, settling for bargain-rate deals with Homer Bailey and Rich Hill, the AL Central champion Twins decided instead to double down on their offense. Riley's not far removed from a run as a standout prospect, and he began his major league career well last season. Cruz went deep 41 times last season, his fourth such time meeting that milestone.

Henderson, Bronze voted Englands players of the year
Henderson made seven England appearances a year ago , passing the 50-cap mark during a 5-1 win in Montenegro. Lyon defender Bronze receives the award for the second time in claiming honor in 2015.

While Donaldson is not the impact pitching the Twins were set to acquire this offseason, his signing is still a major victory for the Twins.

In addition, the Twins also get a boost defensively as Donaldson ranked third among third basemen in Baseball Savant's new outs against average metric behind Colorado's Nolan Arenado and Oakland's Matt Chapman.

Sano was at Target Field on Tuesday to finalize a three-year, $30 million contract and told reporters he was more than willing to switch spots, noting he has worked out at both positions during the offseason.

Amid baseball's cheating scandal ending the careers of two great young managers in Alex Cora and former Phillie A.J. Hinch, the Philadelphia Phillies are coming out on top when their division rivals come up short in the free agent sweepstakes.

MLB Network first reported Donaldson's agreement with Minnesota.
