Mark Hamill quits Facebook over political ads controversy

Facebook's Zuckerberg Drops Annual Challenges to Focus on Longer Term Goals

"I know this is a big "Who Cares?" for the world at large, but I'll sleep better at night", the Star Wars actor explained in his post on Twitter.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently shared a post on social media about the company's plans and vision for the coming decade which also talks about decentralizing business and finances of the company in the coming years.

Facebook's policy diverges from other social media platforms that have attempted to curb the spread of political misinformation. This update brought renewed pressure from the parties who want Facebook to change its stance and appears to have prompted Hamill to quit Facebook and delete his page.

Mr Zuckerberg has downplayed the role of political advertising in contributing to the company's profits, rather framing the issue as one of freedom of speech.

In a recent tweet, Star Wars and Batman: The Animated Series actor Mark Hamill announced his decision to delete his Facebook account in protest of the website's refusal to fact-check political ads on its platform. "These ads from politicians will be less than 0.5% of our revenue next year". "At Facebook, we're building lots of different apps and technology - ranging from a new private social platform to augmented and virtual reality - and we're handling a lot more social responsibility".

Warner, Finch star as Australia crush India in 1st ODI
Their openers Aaron Finch and David Warner went on to score centuries to make light work of the hosts. The in-form batsman came out after KL Rahul fell but could manage only 16 off 14 balls with one six.

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden's campaign team called the announcement "more window dressing" used to justify "their decision to allow paid misinformation". Twitter has completely banned political ads, while Google has said it would remove political ads that include false statements.

"This isn't about free expression".

This is keeping with Facebook's newsworthiness exemption, introduced in 2016, which allows posts that break community standards "if we believe the public interest in seeing it outweighs the risk of harm", VP of global affairs and communications Nick Clegg said previous year.

Facebook announced its Libra stablecoin project in June 2019, however right after its white paper went public, regulatory bodies and governments around the globe started sharing their concerns over the working model of the project.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg doesn't kill his own food anymore but still enjoys the thrill of the hunt.
