Akon created his own city in Senegal called 'Akon City'

“Looking forward to hosting you there in the future,” Akon wrote

Yes, you read that right. "Looking forward to hosting you there in the future", he wrote.

Akon officially has his own city in Senegal.

SAPCO Secretary General Aliune Ndiaye said that Akon intends to set up a property in Mbodiene's seaside village which is about 75 miles from the Senegal's capital city of Dekar. The city has been approved by Senegal's state-owned SAPCO tourism company.

As Bitcoinist reported, Akon first announced Akoin back in 2018, along with the grand hope that it "could be the saviour of Africa".

Known for songs like "Locked Up", "Lonely" and "Oh Africa", the Grammy-nominated rapper is more recognized as a business man than a musician these days.

The pop star's cryptocurrency doesn't have a white paper yet, however, meaning that many details about the new digital currency are unclear. Akoin's new revolutionary crypto coin is aimed at unifying Africa and providing potential opportunities for young aspiring entrepreneurs and will be available across the 54 countries of the entire African continent.

According to CNN, Akon had previously said that the futuristic city would be built on a 2,000-acre plot of land gifted to him by the President of Senegal.

Reports hint at Mbodience, a short drive from Senegal's new global airport, as the land in question.

"It's a 10-year building block so we're doing it in stages", he said at the time.

In an interview with actor Nick Cannon in November previous year, Akon claimed the city would run completely on renewable energy and have its own airport. "And if you can have a billion dollars sitting in the bank while you have all these people suffering and struggling, man, to me, it's just insane".

Akon also said Billionaires, who can't cater to the needs of the people and solve a problem, are wasting their billions.
