NT searchers find body of missing woman

Ms McBeath-Riley spoke outside hospital on Monday, alongside Ms Hockridge's sister, and said she was "worried to death", because she thought the pair - who had a Global Positioning System and compass with them - would have earlier reached the Stuart Highway, about 22km from where they separated.

The body has not been identified but it is believed to be 46-year-old Claire Hockridge, Northern Territory Police said.

Mr Tran told police he had separated from Ms Hockridge two days earlier after they reached a fence on the property.

Tamra McBeath-Riley and Claire Hockridge went missing while hiking with a friend in the Australian outback two weeks ago.

Northern Territory police said on Wednesday they had located a body "which is believed to be that of Claire Hockridge during search efforts".

Ms Hockridge was last seen by Mr Tran at the boundary fence of a station south of Alice Springs two days ago, where the two had parted ways and he made a decision to follow the fence line.

McBeath-Riley, who had been driving and became lost, decided on Thursday to stay at a salty waterhole with the couple's Staffordshire terrier while her companions attempted to trek toward a highway, carrying water and planning to walk at night to avoid the desert heat, which came close to 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) in recent days.

"We are all grieving and exhausted from the emotional roller coaster that we've ridden", Sarah Hockridge told reporters.

McBeath-Riley and the dog were rescued by a search helicopter on Sunday after a cattle rancher alerted police to suspicious tire tracks, which lead searchers to the abandoned pickup truck.

On Tuesday, police said they feared Ms Hockridge had "limited to no water supplies".

They stayed together for a harrowing few days with little food before splitting up to get help.

Mr Tran was located by a pastoralist conducting bore runs in the area on Tuesday.

Ms McBeath-Riley spoke outside hospital on Monday, saying she was "worried to death", because she thought the pair - who had a Global Positioning System and compass with them - would have earlier reached the Stuart Highway.

They left a note inside their auto.

Temperatures reached about 40C in the area while the group was missing.
