Scientist Dianne Crenfeldt, from the Institute of Environmental Science and Research (ESR), told the jury she had located two approximately circular probable blood stains between the accused's bed and a wardrobe.

She says the staining came from a round object, most likely a bucket.

The underside of the carpet and the concrete floor also showed "probable blood staining".

The man, 27, who's name has been supressed, denies a single charge of murder at his high court trial in Auckland.

Though he confessed to her death, the man claimed she died accidentally when they engaged in rough sex, the BBC reported.

Scientific testing showed that blood found on the fridge in the apartment is 500,000 million times more likely to belong to Ms Millane than anyone else.

Ms Crenfeldt says she was unable to extract a DNA profile from the blood residue as it wasn't a good enough sample.

Defence counsel Ian Brookie said the defendant told police in an interview he encountered a small amount of blood on the apartment floor and, with various cleaning products, he went around the place trying to clean it up.

With reference to a photograph of footprints in the apartment shown with the use of luminol, Ms Crenfeldt said this showed somebody with blood on their feet had moved around the room and transferred blood to those areas.

Her body was found buried inside a suitcase in dense bushland west of the city a week later.

On Friday, the court heard there was evidence that attempts were made to clean up blood, which the defendant had already told police about.

Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif clicked while returning from Dubai
As the release date of Salman Khan starrer Dabangg 3 is coming closer, the excitement of fans is also increasing. The Dabangg Khan was seen doing lip-synch on the lyrics of the song while tapping his feet with Katrina Kaif .

When he woke, however, the accused said Millane was "lying on the floor, I saw she had blood coming from her nose".

"He wasn't distressed or concerned by her death", prosecutor Robin McCoubrey told the court.

The British Backpacker's friend from Lincoln University, Ameena Ashcroft reportedly said in her statement that Millane was messaging her throughout her date and got especially anxious about her safety when the 21-year-old described her date as "an oil manager" who lived in a hotel.

Security footage showed the pair kiss repeatedly at the Bluestone Room before walking arm-in-arm a short distance into the lobby of the CityHigh hotel, where the defendant was staying.

The last known sighting of Grace Millane was at about 9.40pm when she was captured on CCTV entering CityLife hotel with the accused.

Mrs Millane left in tears as a series of intimate photographs found on the defendant's phone were described.

The defendant placed Millane's body in a suitcase and drove a rented vehicle to bury her in Waitakere Ranges, prosecutors said.

The defendant, wearing a navy blue suit and black shirt, did not react as Gillian Millane walked out of the courtroom.

Information from the person's telephone confirmed he had used Google to browse web sites for big duffel luggage, suitcases and automobile rent.

On Thursday, the court heard the suspect's phone was used to search for "flesh-eating birds" and the question "are there vultures in New Zealand?".

Records showed the defendant had searched online for "the hottest fire", "large bags near me" and "Waitakere Ranges" - where Ms Millane's body was later found contorted inside a suitcase on December 9 2018 - before going on another Tinder date later that day.
