Brian Hoyer to start as Colts rule out Jacoby Brissett

The Indianapolis Colts changed their lineup before Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins because of Jacoby Brissett's knee injury.

When Brissett exited the game against Pittsburgh last Sunday, it didn't look good. He did limited work in practice this week.

Indianapolis announced that Brissett has been downgraded to out. Hoyer also had an intercepted pass returned 95-yards for a Pittsburgh touchdown. It's pretty apparent that he could handle the starting role if necessary. The Colts (5-3) gave Hoyer extra reps in anticipation of a possible start against the Dolphins (1-7).

This isn't a surprising development when you consider that Indianapolis elevated Chad Kelly from the practice squad today.

The Colts also downgraded cornerback Pierre Desir to doubtful.

In order to make room for Kelly on the 53-man roster, the Colts waived wide receiver Deon Cain and defensive tackle Kyle Peko.

Brissett, who has practiced the past three days for the Colts, is officially going to be a game-time decision for Sunday's game, per head coach Frank Reich.

Backup QB Brian Hoyer made his first appearance of the season and threw three touchdown passes in the Colts 26-24 loss to the Steelers.

The Colts lost Andrew Luck to a surprise retirement in the offseason, but Brissett took over and played well, helping the Colts get into first place in the AFC South at the halfway point of the season.
