Greta Thunberg mural

Speaking as the guest of honour at the 50th anniversary celebrations for the Free Legal Advice Centre tonight, she spoke of her commitment to climate justice and reiterated her support for Swedish climate change activist Greta Thunberg, whom she said moved her to tears.

Argentine muralist Andres Iglesias, who signs his art with the pseudonym Cobre, is set to finish the artwork of the Swedish 16-year-old in the city's Union Square by next week.

Cobre said: "Climate change is real".

The image is the work of Andrés Petreselli, who has already painted a mural of the zany stand-up comic Robin Williams in the city.

"Greta is small, she is tiny but her voice is strong and she said ' you have stolen my childhood and then she said ' you are continuing with business as usual".

"I hope with this mural people will realise we have to take care of the world".

Cobre said he was searching for a building for a new mural when environmental not for profit One Atmosphere approached him about the project. The organization is said to be supplying all the paint for the project.

It's not the first time Nobel peace prize nominee Thurnberg has inspired street art.

Earlier this year, British graffiti artist Jody Thomas created a 50ft portrait of the teenage activist on the face of Bristol's historic Tobacco Factory. "At the end of the day it's a child that's telling us what to do".

In September, she became the face of a vast, co-ordinated strike to protest against government inaction on the climate crisis. Demonstrations spanned an estimated 185 countries in one of the largest environmental protests in history.

"It can be hard in times like these to find hope, I can tell you", Thunberg said before the interruption.

"There's something about that girl that gives me the creeps. That mural and those eyes is something straight out of a dystopian SciFy movie", one wrote, commenting on the SFist story. Entire ecosystems are collapsing. "We're pretty much at the beginning of our extinction, so if we don't do anything right now, it's going to be too late", he told CNN.

"When people pass by, I'm sure they will be struck by the image and I hope that will help open their hearts and their minds to the remarkable conviction in Greta's words", Scott said.
