Weird text messages overnight? Sprint says update caused message confusion

Individuals throughout social media say they're receiving texts initially despatched months in the past, corresponding to on Valentine's Working day.

"Last evening, a maintenance update occurred to part of the messaging platforms of multiple carriers in the U.S., including Sprint, which caused some customers to have older text messages sent to their devices", a Sprint spokesperson told CNN Business. A Sprint spokesperson confirmed the "issue was resolved" quickly and T-Mobile confirmed the same issue and quick resolution. The website reported that Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T are working on an effort called the "Cross Carrier Message Initiative", which is expected to launch next year.

Numerous Twitter users discussed how the texting debacle caused either confusion or embarrassment, with one user reporting to have received a Valentine's Day text from an ex-boyfriend. Worse than that, though, is the fact some messages received late were sent by people who have since died. Carriers haven't gone into detail about what went wrong, though, so it's not clear why the texts resurfaced or what prevented at least some of them from being delivered in the first place.

People were definitely confused by all the delayed texts.
