Sears, Kmart closing seven more Pennsylvania stores this winter

A sign announcing the store will be closing hangs above a Sears store

In addition to Wilkes-Barre Township and Berwick, the compant plans to close three other Pennsylvania Kmart stores - in Ephrata, Lebanon and Williamsport - as well as Sears stores in North Wales and Whitehall.

The lenders include former Sears Holdings CEO and biggest investor Eddie Lampert, whose ESL hedge fund bought most of Sears' assets, including about 400 stores, out of bankruptcy under a new private entity, which is now called Transformco.

"Since purchasing substantially all the assets of Sears Holdings Corporation in February 2019, Transformco has faced a hard retail environment and other challenges". The closing locations will have going out of business sales starting on December 2. When the process ends next year, the company will operate 182 remaining stores.

KSBY reached out to the City of Atascadero regarding the announcement of Kmart closing there but has not yet heard back.

Her black 2017 Honda CRV was later found abandoned at an apartment complex more than 50 miles away, in Montgomery. A reward of more than $105,000 is being offered for information on Blanchard's location, according to the report.

The company recently acquired Sears Hometown - a network of independently owned and operated, smaller stores that offer home products such as appliances, sporting goods and tools - that it hopes could help change its fortunes.

"We will continue to evaluate our Sears and Kmart footprint, consistent with our overall retail and service strategy", Transformco said.

The Sears stores in Auburn and Leominster and Kmarts in Acton and Billerica will close this winter, according to a news release issued Thursday by their parent company.
