Over two million pounds of poultry recalled, eight states impacted

RECALL ALERT More than 2 million pounds of poultry recalled due to possible 'foreign matter contamination'

The Food Safety and Inspection Services (FSIS) with the U.S. Department of Agriculture on Wednesday announced Simmons Prepared Foods, Inc.is recalling roughly 2,071,397 pounds of poultry because the products are possibly contaminated with metal, according to a news release.

The Department of Agriculture said the problematic poultry was produced between October 21 and November 4 and shipped to spots including restaurants, schools, hospitals and distributors in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Georgia, Minnesota, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania.

The FDA said any institution that has the chicken should throw it away or return it to where it was purchased.

The USDA classified the recall as a "Class 1", which means "there is a reasonable probability that use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death". Anyone who thinks they have become sick after consuming the potentially contaminated items is asked to contact a healthcare provider.

The firm issued a statement about the recall.
