Ohio State’s Chase Young out due to possible NCAA ‘issue’

Thoughts on Chase Young being held out of Maryland game while Ohio State looks into potential NCAA issue

Letterman Row, first confirmed the story that Ohio State defensive end Chase Young is facing an indefinite suspension.

He has tied Ohio State's single-game records for sacks (four) and tackles for loss (five) in the Buckeyes 38-7 win over Wisconsin.

The school announced Friday that Young will not play for the Buckeyes in Saturday's game against Maryland, writing in a statement that the Department of Athletics is reviewing "a possible NCAA issue from 2018".

That statement did not elaborate on the nature of the issue or the potential length of Young's absence.

China voices 'regret' over U.S. pullout from Paris climate pact
Many local governments and institutions in the United States made emissions commitments under a movement called We Are Still In . Trump has previously said that the agreement put "no meaningful obligations on the world's leading polluters" like China.

Ohio State has been utterly dominant through the first eight games of the year, and has positioned itself as the odds on favorite to get to the College Football Playoff and potentially bring home the national title.

Young leads FBS with 13.5 sacks, has put himself in the Heisman Trophy conversation and certainly is on the short list of contenders to be the No. 1 overall pick in April should he forego his senior season.

If what Ohio State is investigating is actually an NCAA violation, Young's eligibility since the time of the infraction would be in question, meaning he could have been playing the 2019 season as an ineligible player. Rob Mullens, chair of the CFP selection committee, mentioned Young by name as "probably the best defensive player in the country" when explaining why the Buckeyes' dominance on both sides of the ball warranted the top spot.

After Saturday's game against Maryland, Ohio State will play at Rutgers. News 5 will update this as more information becomes available.
