Former Attorney General Sessions enters U.S. Senate race in Alabama

Jeff Sessions, ousted as attorney general by President Donald Trump previous year, said on Thursday he was seeking the 2020 Republican nomination for a U.S. Senate seat from Alabama, the position he resigned to join the Trump administration.

"I was the first to support President Trump".

"As everyone knows, President Trump and I have had our ups and downs".

His relations with Trump quickly soured, however, after Sessions recused himself from the probe into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

The announcement came a year after President Donald Trump fired Sessions from his dream job, and their relationship will now be a determining factor in the race.

Sessions' decision to recuse himself from the federal investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election paved the way for the appointment of Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

When Carlson revisited this controversial part of Sessions' time in the Trump cabinet, the former attorney general continued to defend his recusal decision, however.

Crude Build Puts Oil Prices Modestly Higher
Brent for January settlement fell 35 cents, or 0.6 percent, to $62.61 a barrel on the London-based ICE Futures Europe Exchange. Gasoline and distillate supplies fell, while stockpiles stored at the Cushing, Oklahoma, storage hub rose 1.7 million barrels.

The 72-year-old Sessions was a popular figure in Alabama during 20 years as senator. Nope. Have I said a cross word about our president?

Sessions was senator until becoming Trump's first attorney general in 2017.

Sessions' former colleague, GOP Sen. "No", Sessions said in his announcement statement.

And while politicians, operatives and analysts expect Sessions to become an immediate frontrunner for the GOP nomination, the big unknown is how Trump and his Alabama supporters will react. We have major party candidates for president campaigning on socialism, confiscating firearms, and closing down churches they disagree with. Jones beat Roy Moore in a special election to complete Sessions' term and is now seeking a full term. Richard Shelby earlier said he would endorse the former attorney general and believes he can win.

Sessions' candidacy could further divide the vote of Republicans who oppose Moore.

Candidates already contending for the nomination include former Auburn University football coach Tommy Tuberville and Rep. Bradley Byrne. "And I'll tell you why: First, that would be dishonorable". He's a man of integrity.
